Fascinated by early and contemporary music alike, recorder player Imogen Morris is active as a soloist and in a variety of ensemble settings. She has performed concerts in Germany, Austria, and South Korea, as well as in New Zealand, where recent projects have included Telling Tales, a concert of solo contemporary works inspired by stories, and Zeitgeist, a programme of works for recorder and live electronics presented in collaboration with composer Clovis McEvoy. She has also performed with leading ensembles such as NZ Barok and the Karlheinz Company. Imogen is especially passionate about developing New Zealand’s unique voice in recorder playing and frequently performs and premieres works by New Zealand composers.

Imogen is the instrumental teacher for recorder at the University of Auckland, where she is also currently completing a PhD in musicology supervised by Associate Professors Allan Badley and Nancy November and Dr Rachael Griffiths-Hughes.

In 2017, she completed a Master of Music in recorder at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, studying with Prof. Peter Holtslag. Prior to this, she was taught by Jessica Shaw at the University of Auckland, where she received her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours. Her education has been augmented by masterclasses with Han Tol, Myriam Eichberger, Peter van Heyghen, and Martin Ripper, among others.
