James Liu

James Liu, a thought after pianist and piano teacher who is based in Auckland starts learning the piano at the age of 6 in China. James has shown musical talents since a very young age, including wining the 1st place in concerto section and the 1st runner up at the junior piano competition at Children’s Music School of Suzhou, China.

James studied with Pro. Yiqing Xue at the school of music, Nanjing Normal University prior to moving to New Zealand. He is currently completing his Bachelor of Music degree majoring in piano performance under the tutelage of Stephen De Pledge at the University Auckland. James has achieved distinction both at ABRSM and in Associate of Trinity College London piano recitals. James is a member of the Institute of Registered Music Teacher New Zealand (IRMTNZ), and the Asia Pacific Musician Association (APMA). James is also holding positions as the resident collaborative pianist at the Music Association of Auckland (MAA) and the Auckland University Student Choir (AUSC). The highlight of James’ professional experience was his appearance with the Saint-Petersburg Youth Orchestra playing Schumann’s A minor Piano Concerto in Russia 2018.

When teaching, James provides a comprehensive range of technical and performing skills in piano playing, from beginner to advanced level at all ages, especially he is excellent at teaching sight-reading and aural skills. James is very enthusiastic about sharing his musical knowledge and performance experiences with the students. His students have achieved extensive certificates of music exams and competition awards locally.
